“It’s not a good feeling when you see your school vandalized.”

Those are the words of Gordon Denny Community School principal Marlina Ballantyne about the ongoing vandalism occurring at the Air Ronge school. Last week, in the evening hours of both Oct. 27 and 28, two windows were broken at the school and video camera footage showed what appears to be groups of young people involved in the destruction.

The incident follows a previous act of vandalism in August when at least seven windows leading into classrooms, administrative offices and entryways were damaged.

“It is awful. It doesn’t make our school look good and our students have to see this,” Ballantyne said.

The footage was shared with La Ronge RCMP, but Staff Sgt. Dean Bridle stated in an email the video that was viewed does not show a good enough description of the youth to be able to identify them and, therefore, no one has been arrested yet.

“We are currently setting up a date for a meeting with the principal and the village council to look at ways to prevent future incidents,” he wrote.

Ballantyne and the RCMP are encouraging the public to contact police in a timely manner if they witness any suspicious activity at the school.
