JPII senior boys cap soccer season with provincial bronze

John Paul II Collegiate wrapped up their soccer season over the weekend, as the senior boys soccer team took home a bronze medal at provincials in Yorkton.

The performance caps a pretty successful season for the Crusaders’ soccer team after also finishing first in the district last weekend on their home field at JPII.

The team took back-to-back wins at districts over Se-Se-Wa-Hum School 4-3 in extra time and Martensville 2-1 to initially punch their ticket to the provincial tournament.

At provincials in Yorkton this weekend, the Crusaders then fell to Yorkton 2-1 in extra time in their opening game before bouncing back in the bronze medal final to top Martensville 1-0 for the third-place prize.

Coach, Shalen Fox said they are very proud about the team’s ability to stick with it this year and compete at a high level, despite being a bit lighter than usual on team numbers.

“It was good just to qualify, as we didn’t have the largest roster, so we kind of grinded it out with 14 players, where we usually have had at least 18 or so in previous years,” Fox said. “So we’re really proud of this group and what they were able to accomplish.”
