PRINCE GEORGE– The BC Coroners Service has released some more troubling numbers. The report released this morning shows that 333 lives were lost to suspected illicit drug toxicity in August and September.

The opioid crisis has claimed 97 lives so far in the Northern Health region. 35 of those right here in Prince George.

The 1,534 cumulative deaths in 2021 are the most in the first nine months of a calendar year and represent a 24% increase over the 1,240 deaths recorded between January and September 2020.

September is also the 12th consecutive month in which there were at least 150 deaths due to toxic illicit drugs, and an average of 170 British Columbians have been lost each month in 2021.

Deaths due to drug toxicity remain the leading cause of unnatural death in B.C.
