Nov 18, 2021 | 10:14 AM

The lights have come back in the region after over 2,100 SaskPower customers went over 24 hours without power.

The winter storm caused outages west of Melfort for St. Brieux, Kinistino, and James Smith Cree Nation areas on Tuesday afternoon at around 4 p.m.

Kinistino had services restored yesterday at around noon, while St. Brieux and James Smith finally had power at around 7:30 p.m. last night.

The outage led to the St. Brieux and Kinistino schools cancelling classes for the day on Wednesday. Classes resumed as normal today.

Provincially, the outage centre received 8,900 calls and there were 91 outages in total affecting around 48,000 customers.

SaskPower is reminding residents that the winter season is just beginning and extreme weather can happen anytime of year in Saskatchewan. Having an emergency kit on hand at all times is important.

Any outages, downed lines or damaged equipment can be reported at 306-310-2220.
