The Nipawin Hawks will look for their second straight home ice win when the team hosts the Battlefords North Stars Friday night.

Nipawin is coming off a 4-2 win over the Weyburn Red Wings on Tuesday at the Centennial Arena, the Stars last action was a 4-1 victory over the Hawks at the Access Communications Centre last Saturday. Nipawin Head Coach Doug Jonson wasn’t thrilled with his club’s effort last weekend, he said Tuesday’s win was much better, but said the team is still trying to work out some inconsistencies.

“We need to better day in, day out,” he said. “It’s not sometimes I’m going to go, sometimes I’m not. You have to treat this like a job guys, you have to give your best performance everyday.”

In the loss to the Stars the Hawks gave up all four goals while shorthanded. Five-on-five Johnson felt his team played the third place Battlefords well, but he said the team is working hard to bring a solid effort everyday.

“We still need to work hard, we still need to compete,” Johnson added. “We showed a lot of video and basically it was, does this look like a guy that wants to be here and wants to compete and make our team better? We singled some guys out and I hope the message was sent.”

The Hawk’s record is 9-9-0-2, their 20 points leaves them in eighth place, Battlefords is 14-6-1-1. Friday’s contest will be the second of four meetings between to the two clubs this season.

Nipawin will still be without centremen Rylan Lefebvre and Kye Whillans. The team has called up Braeden Jockims from the Saskatoon Contacts. The 16-year-old was drafted by the Hawks in the second round of the SJHL Bantam Draft. He will wear number 14 in his Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League debut.

Faceoff is 7:30 p.m., if you can’t make the game, it will be broadcasted on Saskatchewan New Beach Radio beginning at 7:15 p.m.

The home game is on the air due to the Riders game on Saturday. Nipawin’s game in Humboldt on Saturday will not be on the air.
