Schools in the northeast receive funding for renovations

Nov 23, 2021 | 6:00 PM

Schools across Saskatchewan are getting renovations with the help of the provincial government.

Updates to mechanical and structural components in schools will be funded through stimulus funding announced by the province in June 2020.

The province has allocated $25.9 million to allocate between the chosen schools.

Dustin Duncan, Education minister, said in a release the funding is going to help issues identified as priorities in schools.

“We are pleased to see the progress made on these projects and in our education sector.”

The project will include 15 communities across the province. Aberdeen, Allan and Tisdale are the three northeast communities set to receive funding.

A roof replacement for both Tisdale Middle and Secondary School has been completed. Another two schools have also concluded their repairs.

Aberdeen Composite School is in the process of getting a new roof. The project is expected to be completed by the end of Nov 2021. Three other schools are also expecting repairs to be wrapping up at the same time.

Allan Composite School has not yet started their repairs or announced what repairs are expected to be done. There is a design completed for all upcoming renovations.

The goal of these projects is to help relieve some of the stress on the school boards preventative maintenance and renewal fund.

The project aims to maintain and renovate schools to allow for students to experience fewer interruptions from external factors.

The Government of Saskatchewan is including these projects in their $7.5 billion capital plan focusing on stimulating the economy of the province.
