The Nipawin Hawks are back on home ice Tuesday after picking up an overtime win and shootout loss in Melville and Yorkton on the weekend.

The Estevan Bruins visit the Centennial Arena for the first time this season. The teams met in Estevan back on Oct. 16, the Bruins won the contest 4-1. The Hawks sport a record of 10 wins, 11 losses in regulation and four losses in a shootout including Saturday’s 1-0 loss against the Terriers. The Bruins hold the best winning percentage in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) at .760, Estevan is second overall behind Humboldt but has played two less games than the Broncos.

Hawks Head Coach Doug Johnson said the team is excited for the challenge.

“It’s great. They are supposedly one of the most skilled teams in Canada, they are hosting the Centennial Cup. It’s going to be a great test for our guys,” Johnson said.

The matchup is the start of another busy week for the team that sits in the final playoff spot in the SJHL as the season nears the halfway point. Nipawin has another crucial home-and-home series with division rival La Ronge Ice Wolves beginning Friday in Nipawin. Johnson said the task at hand now is the Bruins and defending home ice in “the cage.”

“They’re coming into our rink, it’s a much different atmosphere than Affinity Place,” Johnson said. “We hope to welcome them with open arms and some ice bags.”

Faceoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
