Two Broncos top league players of the week list

The Humboldt Broncos are once again celebrating a strong week in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL).

The green and gold celebrated three wins in their last week of play for 2021 with a 8-0 shutout against Kindersley on Dec. 14, and two wins at home against Notre Dame and Battleford.

That has led to some accolades from the league with two players topping the players of the week list.

Connor McGrath received the SGEU MVP award for his impressive points tally this past week with four goals and five assists added to his 53 point season total. The league noted McGrath has only had one game in the last 23 where he did score at least a point and only five pointless games this season.

McGrath has been a consistent presence at the top of the leading scorers for the league this first half of the season. With some extra points in the Broncos’ last two games of 2021, McGrath added a five-point cushion between him and Estevan’s Mark Rumsey to finish off his year at number one. Estevan still has one more game to play against 12th place Weyburn before they finish off 2021.

Broncos forward, Braiden Koran, was also recognized for his performance this week with forward of the week. With six goals and three assists, Koran also earned nine points in the last three games and has risen in the leading scorers list to seventh in the SJHL. The league pointed out that nine of his past 16 goals occurred in his last five games.

Broncos defenceman, Noah Barlage, and green and gold goalie, Rayce Ramsay, also received a shoutout from the league as runners up in their respective categories.

Barlage earned himself four assists this past week while Ramsay earned two wins, including his second career shutout.
