New power forward added to Broncos roster in time for new year

The Humboldt Broncos will have a new power forward coming into the new year.

Following the conclusion of the SJHL roster freeze on Jan. 2, the Broncos added Jerzy Orchard from the BCHL Merritt Centennials in exchange for a player development fee.

In 22 games with the Centennials this season, Orchard earned 15 points with eight goals and seven assists.

Originally from Delisle, Sask., Orchard spent parts of two seasons in the WHL playing 41 games with the Kamloops Blazers for their 2018/2019 season followed by 11 games with the Saskatoon Blades for their 2019/2020 season.

“We are very excited to get a player with the experience that Jerzy brings to our club,” said Broncos head coach and general manager, Scott Barney in a recent press release. “He is a player we have targeted for the past couple seasons, and we really look forward to getting him in a Broncos’ uniform.”

Orchard told northeastNOW that hasn’t been able to play in his home province for a while now, so he is excited to be back in his home province, as well as with the Broncos.

“Humboldt’s a very strong team in the league and I hope that I can just come in and help in any way that I can. Just being in the locker room the last couple of days, the group seems really good, like a strong group of guys and all good personalities so that’s pretty exciting, getting to know everybody.”

Orchard will be wearing the green and gold for the first time tonight as the Broncos kick off 2022 in Melville tonight taking on the Millionaires. The first 2022 Broncos home game will take place at the Elgar Petersen Arena on Jan. 8 against the North Stars.
