‘Fantastic’: Community comes through big during Virtual Food Drive

Jan 5, 2022 | 12:34 PM

Nearly $30,000 was raised during the 2021 Virtual Food Drive for the Prince Albert Food Bank.

Last month, Power99 and 101.5 Beach Radio teamed up with Save on Foods to help raise funds for the food bank and its biggest needs.

At the end of the drive, a total of $29,536 was raised for the local organization.

“That’s fantastic for us,” said Executive Director Kim Scruby. “Our bills are going up all the time with the rising price of food, utilities, etc. This is very welcome, great support by the community.”

Scruby added he was grateful for the community support despite COVID-19 concerns and economic worries.

“The local economy is not in the greatest spot right now and even just give that, the fact that people came forward and gave us what they did, it was much appreciated.”

“There’s a real sense of community spirit in P.A. that you don’t see in other places.”

Lew Harrison from Beach Radio joined Andy from Power 99 for a trip to Save on Foods to kickstart the fundraiser. He said the shopping trip was eye-opening.

“To see all the other essentials they needed, not just canned goods, things like baby formula and diapers and things like that.”

Harrison added while’s he’s ecstatic about the total amount raised, he said the food bank will be constantly looking for support as the year progresses.
