Mintos see third straight game postponed, Bears still on schedule in U18 AAA update

Jan 12, 2022 | 12:00 PM

Because of COVID-19 protocols that have forced many hockey games to postpone and hope to reschedule later, the Prince Albert Mintos have yet to play since before the holiday break.

They were supposed to restart their Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League season this past weekend against the Yorkton Maulers on the road, but both games were postponed.

Then the Mintos were supposed to return to the Art Hauser Centre on Wednesday to take on the Saskatoon Contacts. But the Mintos announced through their social media accounts on Tuesday evening the game would not be taking place after all, as it has also been postponed. All three postponed games have yet to be rescheduled.

Next on the Mintos schedule are two games against the Tisdale Trojans, Sunday at the Tisdale RecPlex at 2 p.m. and Jan. 19, 7 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre.

Bears still on schedule

Knock on every piece of wood near you for good luck, but COVID-19 protocols have yet to affect the Prince Albert Northern Bears.

The Bears were able to host the Swift Current Wildcats in a two-game set this past weekend, falling 2-1 in a shootout on Jan. 7 before a 2-1 regulation defeat on Jan. 8.

The Bears are slated to play the Wildcats again on Saturday in Rosetown at 5:30 p.m. After that, the Bears are scheduled to take on the Saskatoon Stars Jan. 20 at the Art Hauser Centre at 7 p.m., before a two-game road trip to face the Weyburn Gold Wings Jan. 22-23.
