Judge finds evidence in Billette homicide case sufficient to proceed to pre-trial

Jan 13, 2022 | 3:49 PM

All four accused in the murder of Sheena Billette have been committed to stand trial at Court of Queen’s Bench in Prince Albert.

Judge Bruce Bauer found that there was enough evidence presented during the preliminary hearings, which ended in December, to proceed with charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping.

The co-accused, who remain in custody, are Charlie Napthalie Charles, Deborah Maggie Mckenzie, Telsa Jane Mckenzie and Sharise Justice Sutherland-Kayseas. They will appear for a pre-trial phase at Court of Queen’s Bench in Prince Albert on Friday.

Preliminary hearings began in August 2021 and a publication ban prevented the media from reporting on the evidence presented. The hearings were scheduled to begin earlier, but was delayed due to COVID.
