COVID-19 outbreak at Prince Albert’s Victoria Hospital

Jan 20, 2022 | 10:15 AM

The sixth floor of Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert has moved to level three of family presence restrictions, according to a statement Wednesday night from the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

The measure was taken on Monday, at approximately 4 p.m.

“The additional restrictions were necessary due to a COVID-19 outbreak. As of Jan. 19, three patients and seven health care workers had COVID-19,” the statement said.

Level 3 restricts family presence to end-of-life reasons only. Examples include, but are not limited to: palliative care, hospice care or those who are at high risk for loss of life, dramatic shift in the functioning of a patient or patient unlikely to leave hospital.

“Staff are to notify the list of designated visitors when changes in family presence occurs. Due to staffing shortages as a result of COVID-19, this may not always occur in a timely way,” the SHA said.

Prior to the outbreak, the area was on Level 1 of family presence. To date, all are experiencing mild symptoms.

The SHA said they appreciate and value the public’s understanding and patience as everyone adapts to the new restrictions.
