Nipawin is on the search for a new chief administrative officer (CAO) following the resignation of a long-time employee.

The Town of Nipawin announced in a news release on Jan. 31 that the current CAO Barry Elliot has resigned.

Elliot told northeastNOW that resigning was a difficult decision to make.

“Nipawin has been absolutely wonderful. We have become really attached. The council that I work for and I have worked with in the past have been very supportive of all of my efforts.”

His last day will be April 24 after which he will assume the role of CAO for the Town of Maple Creek.

“The opportunity presented itself in Maple Creek, which is a community that both my wife and I are very fond of. It is a community that is much closer to a significant number of our family members.”

Nipawin town council announced they are currently looking for a replacement. Elliot explains what qualities he thinks an ideal candidate should possess.

“They will certainly need experience,” Elliot adds. “The town has got its own challenges, a committed council that has a unified vision on moving the community forwards, a capable staff but will need someone who understands the role and commitment to the community.”

He is currently working with Mayor Rennie Harper on finding a suitable candidate and making the transition as easy as possible.

In his remarks, Elliot expressed thanks for the dedication of the town staff, the council, and those he has worked with.

“They give very much of themselves each and every day in service of visitors, residents and guests to the town. They do it with a smile on their face and sincerity in their hearts.”

Elliot would like to thank those who have made his time with Nipawin both memorable and rewarding.

“To the community as a whole, thank you for the opportunity to have served you for the past six years. It’s been an honour.”
