The bigs and littles of Humboldt Big Brothers Big Sisters got to enjoy a night out bowling with the Broncos.

The Humboldt Broncos took on a new sport on Feb. 13 at Kemway Lanes. The hockey stars teamed up with the organization to provide a night of fun for the children.

Jodie Hergott, director of Humboldt and Area Big Brothers Big Sisters, told northeastNOW that this was the event everyone missed most last year.

“Our bowling with the Broncos event was a great success. It’s one of our biggest and most favourite events with all our children.”

The event provides children in the program with an opportunity to interact with the people in the community they admire the most.

“They get to do a fun activity and have some one-on-one time with the people they look up to in a really fun setting. The kids were just smiling from ear to ear.”

Hergott said this event is close to everyone in the organization’s heart as it provides the littles with the chance to see what dreaming big is all about.

“Those who are playing a sport and going for their goals and not being afraid to have big dreams and I think that for the littles it’s really inspirational for them.”

The Broncos sent 25 players and two members of their coaching staff to support the event, and according to those in attendance, they went above and beyond to make sure it was a success.

“They made sure that they introduced themselves to all our littles and struck up a friendship, and we couldn’t be happier that they put themselves out in the community like that.”

Head coach of the Humboldt Broncos, Scott Barney said it was great way for the team to give back to the community.

“Giving back and being involved in the community is very important especially when you can put a smile on others’ faces. We enjoy supporting this event annually.”
