Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce (MTACC) is encouraging all local businesses to consider joining the board of directors.

The chamber announced they are looking to fill eight board roles and are hopeful that the business community will join together to make it happen.

Cam Lee, MTACC executive director, told northeastNOW that they are looking to fill the empty spots as soon as possible.

“We are just trying to send the message that if we don’t get more input and more influx of new board members, the chamber is not in a position to sustain itself without having that input and having those people around to help with fundraisers and things like that.”

Currently, six out of 14 potential spots are occupied by members of the local business community.

“We need some people to come in and serve on the board, get their say and put their input in as to what direction we should take as an organization. Also, just to be around to volunteer and help out and try to make the MTACC something that continues to build going forward.”

Those hoping to join the board can expect to attend meetings once a month. If they are looking to take on additional roles, there are committees within the board.

“It’s not all that much. We meet, say, for example, the car show, we had a committee there, and we met probably three or four times before the show itself for half an hour or an hour at a time just to make sure we had our ducks in a row.”

The meetings consist of offering opinions as to what works and what doesn’t work to ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible.

Everyone involved in the business community is welcome to attend regardless of if they are self-employed or a member of a larger organization.

“It is anyone that is a chamber member in good standing. We have people on the board now that are family-owned businesses to a larger organization and a national chain.”

Currently, three different members of the community have expressed interest and they are hoping that trend continues.
