The Meadow Lake RCMP detachment dealt with multiple impaired drivers over the week, one of which had an infant in the car.

Late Friday evening, police stopped a vehicle in Meadow Lake and arrested the driver. He’s charged with impaired operation of a conveyance, as well as impaired operation over .08, and appears in court on April 4.

The following evening, members received a report of an erratic driver on Highway 799 and then found the vehicle off road. The female driver was determined to be impaired and had a young infant that was not properly restrained in a car seat.

In addition to her impaired operation charges, she received tickets for operating a vehicle with an unrestrained passenger under 16 years-old and for having open alcohol in the vehicle. She appears in court on April 11.

Later that evening, officers responded to a report of a two vehicle collision on Highway 55, just west of the junction with Highway 155. The driver of one vehicle was treated for minor injuries, while the driver of the other vehicle had left the scene.

Once located and arrested, this male driver was determined to be impaired and charged with multiple offences, including driving while prohibited and failing to remain at the scene of a collision. He has appeared in court and has been remanded into custody to appear in court again on March 14.

Lastly, Meadow Lake RCMP found an impaired driver close to the detachment very early on Sunday morning. The adult female was charged with the same impaired operation charges as the previously mentioned drivers and is scheduled to appear in court on May 9.

In a media statement, S/Sgt. Ryan How stressed the dangers of driving impaired and the efforts of the detachment to remove such motorists from the streets.

“We remind everyone that if you are planning to drink or use cannabis, also plan for a safe ride home or to stay the night where you are,” he said. “We also remind people of the Report Impaired Drivers program – if you see a driver you suspect to be impaired, pull over and call 911 immediately.”

Anyone with information on any incident can call Meadow Lake RCMP, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
