That’s a wrap for the Broncos regular season with 8-1 win over Klippers

The Humboldt Broncos wrapped up their regular season of Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action in a spectacular fashion on Friday night as they destroyed the Kindersley Klippers 8-1 at the West Central Events Center.

The Green and Gold also wrapped up their season with a double line brawl that saw all 10 players get 10-minute misconduct penalties with only 2:22 left in the third period.

Connor Casparie took some shoves from Klipper Carson Baylis a bit too personally as they got into it behind the Klipper’s net after Casparie got a shot off on goal. Soon enough everyone paired off to brawl.

The Broncos now finish the season with 1,546 penalty minutes, second only to their potential playoff rivals the La Ronge Ice Wolves’ who finished their season with 1,562.

Cage Newans would kick off the collection of Broncos goals with a shot on Brett Sweet as Ethan Zielke battled for the puck off the faceoff.

A pass from Alec Saretzky to Matthew Perkins at the points would make it 2-0 for the Broncos followed by Saretzky going into the Klippers zone alone for goal number three.

Taking a pass on the run from James Form, Ziekle would add another one for the Broncos as the buzzer sounded on the first period with the Broncos up by four.

Heading into the second, Jerzy Orchard would get the rebound from Noah Barlage and find the back of the net on the power play. Another goal by Connor McGrath would make it 6-0 going into the third.

Two more from McGrath and Barlage would make it 8-0 as the Tylin Hilbig would sneak one in for the Klippers as the final buzzer sounded for the Broncos regular season.

Rayce Ramsay collected another win for himself in net for the Broncos stopping 17 of the Klipper’s 18 shots on goal to end his last regular season with the Broncos with a record 41 wins in the regular season. Sweet had a bit more of a challenge as the Broncos fired 55 shots his way.

In 58 games this season the Broncos have accumulated 90 points with 45 wins and 13 losses as well as.

Finishing the season in the top four does mean the Broncos will have home-ice advantage going into playoffs as they will face either La Ronge or Yorkton depending on the Terriers’ performance in their last two games.

During the regular season the Broncos have dominated the home ice advantage with 25 wins — more than any other SJHL team — four losses with no overtime or shootout losses, and 130 goals at the Elgar Petersen Arena.

The Yorkton Terriers will play tonight against the Notre Dame Hounds at Westland Arena in Yorkton while their game against the Weyburn Red Wings has been postponed. Two wins will give them sixth spot in the league and bump the La Ronge Ice Wolves down to seventh to face the Broncos.
