Sixty-four curlers representing 16 teams from the Battlefords and area, including St. Walburg, Spiritwood, Medstead and Wilkie, competed in this year’s 97th Annual Men’s Open Bonspiel over the weekend at North Battleford’s Twin Rivers Curling Club.

Manager of the curling club, Kathy McNinch said the event was a great way to wind down the curling season.

“It was a good turnout and I think there was a feeling from everybody that they were happy to come curl with a bunch of people they hadn’t seen for a while,” McNinch said. “Everybody was able to get in some good curling for the end of the season.”

Team Mitchell took home the “A” Event, skipped by Stewart Mitchell and featuring Adam Bugg (Third), John Prokopchuk (Second), and Henry Welford (Lead), as the club topped Team Voinorosky with Lorne Voinorosky, Brian Welford, Al Gabert and Brian Neabel.
