More than three days after he was reported missing, the search continues for a five-year-old boy from Red Earth Cree Nation.

An update was provided on search efforts Friday afternoon with the Chiefs of Red Earth and Shoal Lake joined by Sgt. Richard Tonge of Carrot River RCMP.

During the update, Chief Fabian Head of Red Earth said they’ve had dozens of volunteers from nine different crews assisting in the search efforts.

He touched on the sonar equipment and the aircraft that’s been used so far in the search.

Sgt. Tonge also mentioned the different communities assisting in the search, including some from Lloydminster and Manitoba. He said RCMP conducted aerial searches for six hours on Thursday.

Weather permitting, search and rescue will continue aerial searches. At this point, drone searches are also ongoing,” said Tonge. The RCMP recovery team conducted several water-based searches in the area yesterday and are continuing to do so today. This is in tandem with the search that is being done by the Prince Albert Grand Council with their boat and of course, the large-scale ground search also continues.”

Tonge briefly touched on whether this missing person case should warrant an Amber Alert. He said those alerts are designed for children who have been abducted, which he said, does not appear to be the case.

Chief Marcel Head of Shoal Lake Cree Nation said he spoke to the family of Frank Young Friday morning and while they’re devastated at Frank’s disappearance, they are grateful for the support they’ve received.

“They’re really very appreciative of all the support, with people talking to them. The considerable amount of people that are praying for them. They would like to express their thanks to them.”

Head added the community offices have shut down while members assist in the search for Frank.

The Chief and Council of both First Nations are asking anyone who can help in the search efforts to do so. RCMP are calling on anyone with information on the disappearance of Frank Young to contact them.
