Red Cross helping families displaced by fire on Thunderchild First Nation
More than 13 families lost their home in a fire on the Thunderchild First Nation Monday.
The building that caught fire, called the “Tech,” housed a classroom, business area, and a number of suites.
“Some people didn’t even know there was a fire,” said Shania, a woman who lives on the First Nation, “like my cousin. Her daughter, husband and her were in their unit. They heard people making a lot of noise and yelling. They opening the door to a gust of smoke – thick, black smoke.”
Shania says the 30 people, who are now displaced, are left feeling traumatized, losing photos and possessions.
