NEW YORK — The NHL has suspended Ottawa Senators defenceman Mark Borowiecki two games for boarding Los Angeles forward Tyler Toffoli.

The incident occurred at 2:38 of the first period of the Kings’ 4-1 win over Ottawa on Saturday in Los Angeles. Borowiecki hit Toffoli from behind and into the boards as Toffoli went to retrieve the puck in the Kings’ zone.

Borowiecki was assessed a major penalty for boarding on the play. Toffoli returned to the game after leaving briefly after the hit.

Borowiecki, who had never been suspended before, will forfeit US$12,222.22, which will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
