A meeting hosted in the Montreal Lake Cree Nation could determine the chief situation, which was thrown into turmoil last fall.

Edward Henderson, who was elected chief through an election the Cree nation hosted 10 months ago, filed an appeal into a byelection which saw Frank J. Roberts acclaimed as chief at the end of November last year.

Provisions in the Cree Nation’s Election Act state if a candidate for chief is running unopposed the candidate is declared chief by acclamation.

Henderson is not disputing the fact Roberts was acclaimed; his arguments presented at the appeal tribunal revolved around the process then Chief Electoral Officer Clifford Bird followed in calling for an election.
