The 2018 4-H Charity Steer was on display for the first time at a regional judging competition Saturday in Prince Albert.

Katie Wilson, director in charge of the Prince Albert Exhibition Association’s northeast regional judging competition, said more than 83 young 4-H members attended the competition. In addition to getting their first look at this year’s Charity Steer, Wilson said the club members, ages six to 21, had a chance to practice judging different species and the older members had a chance to qualify for the provincial judging competition.

This year’s steer will be auctioned off at the 4-H show and sale June 10-11, Wilson said, with the benefits all going towards a great local cause.

“We auction the steer off, and all the proceeds go to whatever charity the children have chosen, and this year it is the Rose Garden Hospice,” Wilson said. “It’s a good community effort and it keeps everybody grounded in the community.”
