Town of Battleford parade scheduled for Friday

Locals will have an opportunity to have some fun and cheer for their favourite floats at the 35th annual Battleford parade Friday.

The Town of Battleford confirmed there are about 50 entries already registered for the annual event, so everything is good to go.

“They are still trickling in, so we could end up with a few more by the actual parade date,” Parks and Recreation Director Jordan Schechtel said.

The parade will start at 7 p.m., leaving from the St. Vital School track. The route will take the floats down 22nd St., up First Ave., then on to 25th St., before heading back to the track.

“There are a lot of horses this year,” Schechtel said. “In past years there weren’t as many so that’s kind of a neat thing. The variety is definitely good.”

People taking part will need to gather from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the track prior to the parade. There will also be judging for the best entries among the pre-registered participants.

Schechtel mentioned some people have been concerned about the heat this week, but because the parade is in the evening he hopes temperatures will cool down enough to make it more comfortable for everyone taking part.

As usual, there will be a fireworks display at 10 p.m. Friday on the field across from Fort Battleford following the parade.
