People from all across the country dream of one day striking it big with a lottery win. For one North Battleford resident, that dream has become reality.
Sandra Frank, who grew up in North Battleford and has since moved back, recently won the guaranteed prize draw of $1 million thanks to a lucky Lotto 649 ticket. When Frank first checked her ticket she recalled a moment of shock and surprise, knowing she had won something, but she was still unclear on the exact amount.
“I checked the ticket expecting not to win, obviously, because I have checked numerous tickets. When I looked and I saw that there was a bunch of zeros and a one I just got so flustered that I quickly put the ticket back in my purse,” she said. “I thought it was more than $10 thousand … maybe 100 thousand, and it was just so surreal."
When Frank realized how much she had in fact won, she said she was at her mother’s house with family. Her family didn’t know anything about the ticket yet. Frank said she went into the kitchen and looked at the ticket when she was alone.
“I’m looking for that number on my ticket, and I thought, 'Oh my gosh! That’s a million dollars!'” she said.
When asked what her plans might include for her big payday, Frank mentioned she is planning to take an early retirement, share her winnings with her family, and make one big purchase: a new vacuum.
“You might really laugh at this,” she added. “I’m buying myself a Dyson!”
