Mobile immunization unit visiting M.L. in August

For a few days this month, it will be easier for children in Meadow Lake to get immunized as medical professionals can come to them with a fully-equipped van.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority’s mobile immunization unit is in the city today, and will also be back Monday and Tuesday. Those wishing to have a visit can call or text the population health department and the fully-equipped van goes straight to them. The routine immunizations are for children up to six years old, and protect against diseases such as whooping cough, measles, and meningitis.

Trina Cappelle, a public health nurse at Meadow Lake’s Northwest Health Facility, said the van highlights the importance of immunizations for children.

“We need to ensure as much of the population as possible is immunized on schedule in order to protect our community from vaccine-preventable diseases,” she said. “The vast majority of parents believe immunization is important, but sometimes transportation is an issue, or life just gets in the way.  We are looking for ways to be more accessible and bring the services to the people.”
