Grand opening of new Multiworks facility
It is a project that had been in the works for a number of years. Now, a new facility to accommodate the Multiworks Vocational Training Corporation’s day program in Meadow Lake is officially open.
Local MLA Jeremy Harrison, on behalf of Social Services Minister Paul Merriman, joined dignitaries and community members to celebrate the grand opening Thursday.
“The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to helping people with disabilities lead fulfilled lives and contribute to the Saskatchewan economy,” Harrison said in a news release. “This facility provides the means to expand and improve Multiwork’s programming to support people now and into the future and I commend them for the great work they have been doing in the Meadow Lake area.”
Multiworks is a non-profit organization that has provided residential, vocational and recreational supports to people with intellectual disabilities in the Meadow Lake area since 1978. They worked with a local developer and secured the new building for the participants to continue their existing day program. Since 2002, Multiworks has been doing work for a local mill and recently decided to enhance the partnership with a commitment to increased production. The existing day program building will be used as the production site, which will enable eight to 10 individuals with intellectual disabilities to receive full-time and part-time employment.
