Shoppers will soon have another choice for liquor sales in the Battlefords when Discovery Co-op pops the cork on its new Co-op Wine Spirits Beer Liquor Store.

The outlet will be located in the Co-op Territorial Place Mall next to the Home Centre and feature an array of wines, spirits, beers and ciders from around the globe, as well as the cooperative’s private label products. A walk-in beer cooler and growler bar featuring five kinds of draft beers will be available.

In a news release, General Manager Mike Nord said the new liquor branch will add to the cooperatives diverse offerings when it opens its doors on Oct. 16.

“It’s been a long road but we are proud to bring this new commodity to the Battlefords,” he said, noting members have requested a Co-op liquor store in the region for some time.

Discovery Co-op currently operates a retail liquor store in Raddison.

Asked what sets the cooperative apart from its competitors, Marketing and Communications Manager Leanne Ducommun pointed to customer service as a standout differentiator.

“Everything is based on our service and the knowledge of our employees,” she said. “The Discovery Co-op liquor store has a very strong social responsibility to more of discovering the experience with some of the liquors we carry.”

Ducommun said the location will offer customer profiles to assist in tracking past purchases and offering food pairing choices.
