An RCMP officer in Dillon has been suspended and faces a criminal charge of breach of trust after copying at least one image from video surveillance of a woman being held in the cell area at the Buffalo Narrows detachment.

The incident was discovered by fellow officers last month and an investigation found Cst. Wade Chitrena had inappropriately accessed what RCMP described as sensitive and private images of the woman. He then printed an image.

“Two members from within the Dillon detachment became aware that another RCMP member had inappropriately accessed the images from the surveillance video recording from the cell block,” Cpl. Rob King told paNOW. “We take these types of things very seriously and we regard it as a serious breach of trust.”

King was unable to disclose the nature of the image.
