Christmas Comedy Gala promises laughs for a good cause

Dec 7, 2018 | 1:00 PM

If you’re looking to support a cause and have a few laughs, the Christmas Comedy Gala is the place to be tonight.

The event is put on by Battlefords and Area Oilfield Workers’ Association, partnered with Yuk Yuk’s, with all proceeds going to the Battlefords Humane Society. The doors open at 6 p.m., with dinner to follow at 7 p.m.

Dylan Kobes, organizer of the event, said the three acts have fun in store for the Don Ross Centre.

“We’re going to have some amazing comedians come out, and this is a great excuse for people to come out and meet their neighbours,” he said. “This is going to be an awesome event, and hopefully the first of many.”

Scott Dumas will be headlining the event, and has headlined comedy clubs from coast-to-coast. Dumas was showcased at Just For Laughs five times.

William Hannigan will also be taking the stage, with Lisa Baker hosting the night. Tickets are $60 at the door, with all proceeds going to the Battlefords Humane Society, something Kobes said will go to a great cause.

“They’re almost entirely dependent on fundraising efforts these days,” he said. “Things like this go a long way to help them keep the lights on. The demand in Battleford is growing steadily.”
