A woman who was reported missing Thursday from south of Maidstone has been found dead.

Amanda Michayluk was found in a farmer’s field by civilians who were assisting with the search and rescue operation, RCMP said in a media release.

The investigation determined Michayluk had attempted to walk home early Thursday morning during a snowstorm after the truck she and her father were using to collect firewood got stuck in the snow. Police determined she became lost while walking southbound in deep snow on a non-maintained grid road in whiteout conditions.

She was located about four kilometres from where she was last seen walking. It appeared she died of exposure and hypothermia and no foul play was suspected, according to the police.
