In one week Canada’s best junior curling rinks will come to Prince Albert to compete Canadian Junior Curling Championship.

On Friday afternoon the committee responsible for organizing and hosting the event held a media conference to thank sponsors and supporters and to get the word out.

Bryan Rindal, the host committee chair, said he's hopeful for a good turnout.

“I know P.A. will come out to support, 'cause they always do. Everybody says we’re a last minute town. Every town's a last minute town, it doesn’t matter what events you are or aren’t running,” he said.

Rindal said it can be more difficult to estimate attendance numbers when it comes to a curling event given how there are multiple games.

The games will be played at both the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club (PAGCC) and at the Art Hauser Centre. Work to convert the ice at Hauser from hockey ice to curling ice is set to get underway this weekend.

Teams are scheduled to arrive next week.

“They’ll all be here Thursday night, I have yet to get the actual official [information], when the planes are arriving, but we’ve got three buses chartered to go and pick them up in Saskatoon and deliver them to the P.A. Inn,” he said.

Tickets for the event are currently on sale. People can buy a full week pass which costs $135. These are available at the PAGCC, BTR Financial Planning and Perry’s Automotive.

Those looking to go for just one day can pick up their tickets on the day of the event.

“Obviously you’ll be able to buy them at both venues,” Rindal said.

People who purchase tickets will be able to watch the games at both venues.
