Remove bins from street after pickup: Bylaw

Jan 18, 2019 | 3:00 PM

The Prince Albert Police Service bylaw division has a friendly reminder when it comes to garbage bins in the city.

Bylaw Manager Suzanne Stubbs, said timing is important when putting out your garbage bins.

“Once collection is done you have until noon the following day to move it back to your private property,” she said. “It’s just important that you remove it for safety reasons — people can’t use your bins (and) people can’t damage your bins.”

Stubbs added bins cannot be put out on the street before 4 p.m. the day leading up to garbage collection and that bins should be in place no later than 7:30 a.m. because pickup begins at 8 a.m.

Bins should be positioned adjacent to the street or back alley and must be one meter away from parked cars, bags should be securely tied, and bins should not be overfilled. Overfilled bins will not be picked up, neither will bags sitting up against or around your bin.

Prince Albert’s bylaw states if you catch someone dumping in, or going through your bin you can report them and have them fined.

A person who violates the Waste Collection and Disposal Bylaw faces a $100 fine for a first offence, $200 for a recurring wrongdoing.
