Henry Joseph LaVoie “Mr. Fix It” passed away August 17, 2017 with his wife by his bedside after a short and courageous battle with brain cancer. Henry, one of seven children, was born September 28, 1941 in Paddockwood, Sk to Edmund and Lucienne LaVoie. He met Marleen Chomyk and after a short courtship they were married on July 8, 1967 in Albertville. Henry held many trades careers around Prince Albert before moving to Grande Cache and Edson Alberta. He worked in road construction, welding, saw mills, log trucking, mechanics, heavy equipment operator before ending his career by owning his own business ‘Henry’s Handyman Service” in Alberta. He did everything from plumbing, carpentry, roofing, maintenance and complete home renos. People around Edson and Christopher Lake knew him as “Mr. Fix It”, the man who could be called on any time night or day. He took great pride in a huge rustic house and deck he remodeled for Ernie Bittner in Edson. He was always passionate about building things. Henry loved fishing, boating, the music of Elvis, Star Wars, Star Trek and arguing while playing cards.
Henry will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years Marleen; his sons Dwayne (Trina) and Darren (Ginette); his grandchildren Cassandra (Dave Kitter), Kamera (Ian Philpot), Bridget, Donovan, Jaya and Zehlee; his siblings Ernest (Frances) LaVoie, Theresa Paradis, Denise (Dale) Purdy, Eli (Sheila) LaVoie, Michael (Marion) LaVoie and Rachel Culloden; his brothers-in-law Jim(Joan) Chomyk, Ernie (Renata) Chomyk, his sister-in-law Brenda Hancock and many nieces and nephews. Henry was predeceased by his sister Evelyn; brothers-in-law Albert Paradis, Don Chomyk and Matt Culloden; nephews Shawn Chomyk and Charles Culloden; his parents Edmund and Lucienne LaVoie; and in-laws Pete and Elizabeth Chomyk and his precious furry children Kuda, Roxy and Charlee. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
