Melville Evans

January 16, 1928 – December 25, 2017

Melville Kenneth Evans passed away peacefully on December 25, 2017 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert at the age of 89 years.

Melville was born to William and Bella (nee Folstad) Evans.  Dad married Helen (nee Lorinczi) on February 12, 1955 and together they had nine children:  William (Lynn), Barry, Wayne, Brian (Jody), Cheryl (Greg) Herle, Alan, Kevin (Marilyn), Lori (Greg) Amyotte and Kim (Carlee).  His children blessed him with nineteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. 

Melville is survived by his sisters – Lenora, Dorothy, Shirley, Blanche and one brother Leroy.  He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Eunice and Margaret and a brother in law, Mike Postnikoff as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

Melville was predeceased by his wife Helen of 47 years, his parents William and Bella, his father and mother-in-law Andrew and Katherine Lorinczi.  His brothers Willard, Harry, Vernon, Harvey, Lloyd, Gordon; his sister Rosella Kachur, his sisters-in-law Bea Evans and Patricia Postnikoff; his brothers-in-law, Ken Phelps, Morris Thorimbert, Peter Kachur and William Taylor.  He was also predeceased by his daughter-in-law Doreen Evans and great grand baby Michenna Dawn Evans. 

Farming was a passion of dad’s.  He began farming after Grade 8 with his dad Willie, eventually going out on his own at around 20 years of age.  He continued farming with the family into his early 80’s.  Dad always said, that if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life!  He had truly found his passion which he passed on to the grandchildren now into the 5th generation of farming.  Dad believed in the betterment of community serving as Deputy Reeve for the RM of Birch Hills, a board member for the Norther Housing Board and Birchview Nursing Home as well as various committees and organizations.  In his early years, dad loved playing hockey and curling.  In his later years, spending time with the family at Anglin Lake was something he always looked forward to. 

The family would like to thank the Staff at the Mak Lodge, Dr. Halyk, and the staff at the Victoria Union Hospital for all the kind and compassionate care they have given. 

Memorial donations can be made to Saron Lutheran Church or Birch Hills Multi Use Facility c/o The Town of Birch Hills. 

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 30th, at Saron Lutheran Church, Hagen, SK with Pastor Clint Knutson officiating. Interment will follow in the Saron Lutheran Cemetery, Hagen, SK. Family and Friends wishing to send messages of condolence are welcome to visit www.beaulacfuneralhome.com.
