Audrey Potts, 82, of Saskatoon, late of Good Shepard Villa in Prince Albert, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2017, surrounded by the love of her family. From her birth in Toronto on Oct. 28, 1934 to her death on August 18, 2017, Audrey nourished the people around her with love, faith and loyalty. She was the first child of five born to Winnifred and Edward Schut. She received most of her schooling in Ontario, and moved with her family to Saskatchewan when she was 17. While waitressing at a coffee shop on Central Ave. in Sutherland, Saskatoon, Audrey caught the eye of a handsome, young CPR brakeman named Raymond Potts. Raymond soon became a coffee drinker, and told his best friend Mo that “I’m going to marry that girl” and by golly he did. In Dad’s words, it was the smartest thing he ever did. On June 16, 1956, Audrey married her true love Raymond at St. Paul’s in Saskatoon. In 1965, Audrey and Ray welcomed Darren to the family, followed by Heather in 1967. Audrey loved her children and loved being a mom. She rarely missed a ball, hockey or ringette game, and she was always in the stands at track meets cheering on the L.H. students. They travelled to many Sea Cadet band competitions with Darren and later Heather, and spent countless hours helping out down at HMCS Unicorn doing what needed to be done. Their home was always a welcoming place to hang out for Cadet and school friends alike. You never think your parents are cool, but all of our friends sure did. Audrey loved hearing what her nephews and nieces were doing, and rarely missed an important event in their lives. Audrey enjoyed curling and bowling, and she was an avid gardener. She was the Queen of Crochet, making sure every baby had a blanket, and knitting umpteen dozen mitt and toque sets for a local youth shelter. Countless camping trips were made as a family, filled with canoes, fishing, sing-a-longs, s’mores, bears, friends that became family, and always laughter and love. Audrey worked at a few different jobs, starting with the CNIB in Saskatoon in 1950, and retiring from the Govt. of Sask in 1996. During this time, she also volunteered with the Girl Guides, continuing what she started in Toronto. Audrey’s faith was important to her, and she and Ray spent many Sunday mornings teaching music to the Sunday School kids. She was very active at McClure United Church for almost 50 years and she loved every minute of it. Audrey’s greatest joy was her grandchildren. Visiting Grandma meant baking and crafts, trips to the Science Center, story time, or mini-golf at the mall. Audrey is survived by her loving husband of 61 years Raymond, son Darren (Holly), daughter Heather (Oscar); grandchildren Cole (Randi), Melissa (Mark), Kelli (Bryce), Emily (Mike), Kendall (Tiffany), and Sophie; great-grandchildren Layla, Kieran, Julia and Aria; sister Jackie, brother Ray (Holly); loving in-laws Dolores and Frank, Darlene, Lil and Rej, Glenn, and Penny and Norm; numerous nieces and nephews, and many life-long friends. She was predeceased by her parents Winnie and Ed, and sisters Pat and Marlene. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017 at 1:00 pm at McClure United Church, Saskatoon, SK. Interment to follow. You are invited to wear your favorite shade of blue. If you wish to honor Audrey, please visit a local seniors home and spend some time with a senior. Condolences may be sent c/o 235 15th Street East, Prince Albert SK, S6V 1G1.
