A busy night for Melfort Fire & Rescue battling three blazes

Aug 31, 2023 | 10:21 AM

The Melfort Fire Department had a busy night on Wednesday and overnight Thursday with three calls in a span of six hours.

On Aug 30 at 10:34 p.m. firefighters were called northwest of Melfort for reports of a combine on fire.

The fire was unable to spread due to the farmer doing two laps around the burning vehicle with a separate combine.

While the fire department worked diligently to put out that blaze, a second call came in for a structure fire at 11:51 p.m. Three crew members stayed on scene with the combine while the remaining crew went to Bemester Ave in Melfort.

Once crews arrived, the structure was fully engulfed. Crews worked quickly to knock down the flames to protect the surrounding homes.

The occupants of the house were able to evacuate.

Meanwhile, the final call came in at 4:47 a.m. when the structure fire experienced a rekindling. The crew worked quickly to put out the small blaze.
