The gunshots reported in Meadow Lake on Monday have led to the arrest of several parties connected with a recent rash of criminal activity.

Many occurrences reported lately include a home invasion in April, an ATV that was erratically driven on city streets, and reports of a person in a black GMC Sierra pointing a gun at a semi-truck driver. RCMP believe the events are all related, and are attributable to a specific group of people and to the drug trade.

In relation to these events, Draysen Bigham is charged with breaking and entering, assault with a weapon, robbery with a firearm, possession of cocaine with the purpose of trafficking, criminally obtaining a firearm and possession of stolen property, among various other charges. He is remanded to North Battleford provincial court until June 1, 2017.

Several other parties were charged in connection with the recent slew of incidents, and all remain under investigation.

Included in the list is Miami Morin, 19, who is charged with failing to comply with probation and possession of stolen property. John DeWolfe, 42, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime and faling to comply with a judge’s undertaking.

Chantelle Waterhen, 21, is charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Two different 17-year-old male youths are also facing charges, and are unable to be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.  Both are charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, and possession of property obtained by crime. One youth is charged with careless use of a firearm.

None of the allegations against the accused have been tested in court.

Meadow Lake RCMP Sgt. Ryan How said the investigation into these linked incidents is ongoing, and again encouraged the public to contact the RCMP with any relevant information.

“Through the course of the investigation, RCMP members are hearing from the citizens of Meadow Lake that this event has caused fear, concern, and frustration by those affected and the community in general,” he said. “[We] would like the public to be aware that victim services is operational in the community and accessible by contacting the Meadow Lake Detachment.”
