Female Tased after threatening officer with chunk of concrete

In the early morning hours of May 30, while on patrol, a member of the Meadow Lake RCMP encountered a female being chased by a male on Railway Ave. Upon speaking to both parties, the attending officer discovered that the male was court-ordered not to be in contact with the female.

According to a release from the local detachment, Sgt. Ryan How said during attempts to arrest the male, the female grabbed a large chunk of concrete and threatened the officer.

“The male fought against the officer as well before he was able to deploy the conducted energy weapon (Taser) successfully on the female, and take both people into custody,” How said. “Neither [the] suspects nor the officer were injured by the deployment or struggle.”

The woman is charged with assaulting a police officer with a weapon and two counts of failing to comply with a judge’s condition from a previous incident, while the man is charged with assaulting a police officer and uttering threats.

Car shopping 17-year-old found with coke and marijuana

On Sunday, June 4 around 4 a.m., members responded to a complaint of suspicious activity and “car shopping” in the area of First St. W. Car shopping refers to thieves who steal from unlocked vehicles.

Upon investigating the incident, RCMP located a 17-year-old male who fled from police. After a foot pursuit, the youth was arrested and taken into custody.

How said the youth was found in possession of cocaine and marijuana.

“He has been charged with those offences, as well as mischief under $5,000 and resisting arrest,” he said.

Investigation on Carter Place leads to arrest

How said on Monday June 5, a quantity of cocaine was located following the search of residence of Carter Place. Twenty-one-year-old Matthew Hounsell was taken into custody, and charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, and two counts of failing to comply with a judge’s undertaking.

The investigation was led by Const. Matt Keelty and Const. Andrew Giassa.

How said officers want to remind the public about the best methods to contact the detachment. 

“Messages left on the detachment main line are not regularly checked after hours or on weekends,” he said. “If anyone requires RCMP assistance, they can follow the prompts on (306) 236-2570 to have an officer notified by our dispatch. For any life threatening emergencies, call 911.”
