Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation issues precautionary boil water advisory

Residents of Beardy’s and Okemasis must boil their water after chief and council issued a precautionary advisory.

A release posted on the band’s website stated there has been “signifigant difficulties in determining issues with our water supply from the water treatment plant.”

It further states water will be shut off effective immediately to begin testing and isolating water lines in the community to find out if there’s a leak or water main break.

“Due to the nature of this testing, you will encounter water disruptions,” the statement reads. “As a result of the disruptions we are required to issue a precautionary boil water advisory.”

The disruption is expected to last through the weekend.

Residents are urged to boil their water prior to brushing teeth or soaking false teeth or washing fruits and vegetables. It is advised to avoid drinking from public water fountains supplied by the water treatment plant.

Water for non-consumption purposes like bathing does not need to be boiled. Anyone with cuts or sever rashes are urged to consult with a physician.
