Wet weather in P.A. and region hurts crop progress

The theme of this week’s report has been the cold, wet weather experienced in the region and its effects on crops thus far.

Most varieties are significantly behind for this time of year, with the exception of fall cereals measured at 75 per cent normal development. Spring cereals and oilseeds are both more behind than at normal development. Most crop damage this past week was due was also due to excess moisture.

The Melfort area say the most rain in the region at 35 mm, but Tisdale holds the record for the most precipitation at 158 mm in the region since April 1.

Cropland, hay land, and pasture in Prince Albert and region is rated at 100 per cent surplus to adequate topsoil moisture condition.
