The Meadow Lake RCMP detachment is asking the public to be more diligent about protecting their valuables.

In a media release, Sgt. Ryan How said investigators have dealt with several cases of stolen vehicles with the keys left inside, as well as improperly stored firearms in vehicles, as well.

“iPhones, iPads, hockey equipment, and computers are all examples of what officers see in open vehicles while patrolling,” he said in the release. “With valuable property like this open and available to thieves, there is no deterrence.”

He said property-related crime is an on-going issue within city limits, as well as rural areas, and can create opportunities for further, more serious offences.
