Stolen truck used to vandalize city property

A driver caused serious damage to Lions Park last night with a stolen Dodge Ram truck.

Two ball diamond fences were damaged before the driver parked the truck on the amphitheatre stage and abandoned it.

Const. Aaron Gonsch of the Meadow Lake RCMP said officers found eight cars with smashed windows around town.

“It was clear that people were going around looking for a vehicle with keys inside, and they located one,” he said.

He added when members found the truck the morning, it was dirty and damaged.

Diana Burton, city manager with the City of Meadow Lake, said the damage occurred to diamonds four and five in Lions Park.

“A few fences were knocked down and the ground torn up inside the diamonds,” she said. “Similar damage occurred that same night at the soccer pitch behind the Civic Centre, although we don’t know at this time whether those incidents were related. Both have been reported to the RCMP.”

She said the city doesn’t have an estimate on damage amounts, but said she expects repairs which have already started can be handled internally.

The police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
