Festival of Lights hopes to shine bright in first year

An inaugural light tour slated for the holiday season is hoping to create new fundraising avenues for years to come.

A new endeavour called the Festival of Lights, runs from Nov. 23 to Dec. 23. Anyone from the community can sign up for one of 30 electrified sites at the Lions Park campground and decorate. The park will then be open three days a week for drive-thru public viewing. The admission to view the displays will work as a fundraiser to help the Multiworks Corporation complete construction on their new building.

Louise Slater with Multiworks said the idea has been in the works for a number of years.

“We’ve had positive feedback so far, and we’re hoping more people come sign up for a site,” she said. “It’s going to take everybody to make this successful. City council has been very supportive of this as well.”
