Business owner frustrated by recent break-in

A local entrepreneur is feeling disheartened after a break-in at her hair salon last week.

Samantha Hadland owns Studio 26 at the Meadow Lake mall. Upon arriving at work last Thursday, she discovered her front door smashed and a large, round rock laying on the floor. Once inside, she realized the entire cash register had been stolen and one hair straightener.

“It seemed like it was just money they wanted,” she said. “I’m just thankful things weren’t trashed.”

Hadland moved back to town last year to open her own salon, and the business just celebrated its one year anniversary in September. She said working back in Meadow Lake is great, but an incident like this is very discouraging.

“It’s a lot of work owning a business,” she said. “I lost one day of work, had to reschedule with all my clients, and we’re getting down to crunch time pre-Christmas. There was glass everywhere, and we had to shake every towel out… for a shard of glass to be in there would be bad. We’re here 12 hours some days, and we’re trying.”

Sgt. Ryan How of the Meadow Lake RCMP said the break-in seemed to be a targeted, and asked anyone with information to contact Meadow Lake RCMP or Crimestoppers.
