Carpenter High celebrates International Women’s Day
Students at Meadow Lake’s Carpenter High School honoured female empowerment during a pancake breakfast this morning.
The students’ representative council held the event to observe International Women’s Day. When pondering several ideas, organizers thought about the way food brings people together.
“We thought we’d maybe have speakers come in, but then my mom came up with the cool idea of having a pancake breakfast,” student volunteer Lara van de Venter said. “I think it’s so important to realize that we’re pushing for change and equality. We still have a long way to go.”
Her classmate, Zane Klics, said feminism is close to his heart, and said he believes that young people can do a great deal to promote it.
