Town proclaims March 15 Mental Health Awareness Day
The Town of Battleford proclaimed March 15 as Mental Health Awareness Day this year and administrators are going forward to show their support for an upcoming Mental Health community event taking place the same day.
Council also approved contributing $2,500 as a donation to the cause at its recent meeting.
The event will feature TSN sports broadcaster, who recently went public about his own stuggles with mental health. The discussion, which is free and open to everyone, will accept donations toward the Battlefords chapter of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
“Hearing council, they just want to see what they can do to raise money for mental health in the Battlefords,” Mayor Ames Leslie said following council. “It’s a small part we can do to help arm our coaches and our parents, and our people who are in the front-line with all these young kids, students — to give them the training to hopefully prevent this from happening in our community into the future. It’s a small token the town can do.”
