A long-awaited popular fast food restaurant is coming to Meadow Lake.

Dairy Queen is expected to open up in the city next spring. The addition has been confirmed by city hall in Meadow Lake.

Word of the new business is already receiving lots of positive feedback from the community of Meadow Lake. Mayor Gary Vidal told meadowlakeNOW what the business will bring to the community.

“Any time you bring a business like that to the community, it’s received positively by the community,” he said. “It’s something that they recognize, it’s something they know and I’m sure it’s something that they look forward to. I’ve had kids come up to me on the street and they say it’s cool, and thank you.”

The new restaurant is being developed along Highway 4 across from Tim Horton’s and in front of Boston Pizza, Vidal said. He said a DQ will be a great addition to the community.

“I don’t think it hurts businesses when people like that come in to the community, I think it actually draws people in,” he said. “They draw more business out and about. It creates more opportunity for the other businesses as well.”

Mayor Vidal said that this business coming in is something that really reflects well on how the community is perceived and how business owners want to invest in the community and the people of Meadow Lake.

“Any time a new business wants to invest in your community, it’s a positive thing,” he said. “It shows that there’s a positive climate and positive impression and that they’re willing to come to your community. It speaks well for the business community and the community as a whole.”

The project is expected to be completed sometime in 2019. meadowlakeNOW reached out to representatives with DQ for comment, but calls were not returned.
