This past weekend was an active one for local law enforcement officers.

From Friday Aug. 17 to Sunday Aug. 19, detachment members responded to 53 calls for service, according to Cpl. Dean Kabaroff.

“The majority of calls involved intoxicated individuals causing a disturbance, mischief, assaults and two people were charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle,” he said.

Police also got into a brief foot chase and arrested a male wanted for breaching his parole on Saturday afternoon.

Kabaroff also said there has been an upswing in the amount of vehicles stolen in the city this summer. He said police want to remind people to lock, remove or secure valuables and remove keys while unattended.

“Meadow Lake has seen an increase in automobile thefts this summer and the majority of them were unlocked with the keys still in them,” Kabaroff said. “Police again are encouraging the public to call if there is any suspicious activity in their neighbourhood, RM or community.”
